Towels, lint and airflow
Beach towels shed more lint than most loads, and lint is the main enemy of a dryer. It blocks the filter, gets past it into the machine and settles around the heater. The dryer then overheats and its thermal cut-out stops the heat, leaving the drum turning and the towels damp.
Clean the lint filter every load. On condenser and heat pump models, clean the second filter or the condenser too. Make sure the vent hose on a vented dryer is not crushed flat behind the machine.
Repairs we do
Elements, thermal cut-outs and thermostats for no heat. Belts, rollers and motors for a drum that will not turn or is noisy. Door switches for a dryer that will not start. Sensors and pumps on condenser and heat pump models. The vans carry the common parts.
Vented, condenser or heat pump
A vented dryer pushes warm damp air out through a hose, so it needs a window or an outside vent. A condenser dryer cools the air inside the machine and collects the water. A heat pump dryer does the same at a lower temperature and uses much less power. We repair all three. If you are deciding whether to fix an old vented dryer or replace it, the technician can give you the repair price so you can compare.
Salt on the vent
A vented dryer that blows out through the wall pushes warm, damp air past a vent flap that also takes the salt air from outside. On houses close to the harbour, those flaps and the metal duct behind them can corrode and stick shut. A dryer venting into a blocked or stuck flap runs hot and trips its cut-out. Check the flap outside opens when the dryer runs.
