Most Bosch work in this region falls into a short list of faults. What follows is what actually comes through the workshop, not a feature tour.
Bosch washing machine repairs in Wollongong
Yes, we repair Bosch washing machines across Wollongong and the Illawarra, front loaders of every Series, out of manufacturer warranty, in your laundry rather than a workshop. The same booking covers any other Bosch appliance in the house, fridges and freezers included.
What decides the price on a Bosch washer is the motor and the tub, so the model number on the door rim is the first thing we ask for. From it we know whether you have the older brushed motor or the EcoSilence brushless one, and whether the outer tub is sealed, before anyone drives out. The everyday jobs are a door lock that will not release, a drain pump packed with coins and hair clips, a split door boot, an inlet valve that dribbles, and worn brushes. All of those are cheap parts on a machine that is otherwise sound. The two that are not cheap, bearings in a sealed tub and a dead control board, are covered under the F21 section below, and we tell you which side of that line you are on at the assessment.
Bosch dishwasher repairs and service in Wollongong
Yes, we repair and service Bosch dishwashers across Wollongong and the Illawarra, integrated and freestanding, out of warranty, and we work on them where they sit rather than pulling them out to a workshop.
"Service" on a dishwasher is not a scheduled job the way it is on a car. When people book a Bosch dishwasher service they usually have a symptom, and the symptom is what we go after: a machine that has stopped mid-cycle, one that fills but never heats, a door that will not latch, or a leak from underneath. If it is throwing a code, the E15, E18 and E24 section above tells you what to try before you book. If it is not, the parts that actually fail on a Bosch are the heat pump, the heating element, the door seal and the drain pump, and all of them are part swaps rather than a reason to replace the machine.
Is Wollongong Service Company an authorised Bosch service centre?
No. Bosch runs its own service network for warranty work and we are not part of it. We are a local independent repairer, not a Bosch service centre and not on any Bosch approved-repairer list, so a repair by us cannot be claimed back against a Bosch warranty.
That splits the answer in two. If your Bosch is still inside its manufacturer warranty period, book the job through Bosch so the work is done under the warranty, and we will say the same thing on the phone rather than take the booking. Once the warranty period has ended, who repairs it is your choice, and that is when people around Wollongong ring us: a technician who is already in the Illawarra rather than one dispatched from Sydney, and a repair price in front of you before anything is touched.
Bosch dishwashers: E15, E18 and E24
E15 is the one people ring about most. There's a polystyrene float in the base tray, and when water reaches it the machine locks into flood protection and refuses to run. Tipping the machine back roughly 45 degrees for a minute drains the tray and usually clears the code — genuinely worth trying before you book anyone.
The catch is that E15 tells you water arrived in the tray, not why. If it returns within a wash or two, something upstream is leaking. On the machines we see that's usually the door seal at the bottom corners, a perished heat exchanger, or a split in the fill hose where it flexes behind the machine. Clearing the code without finding the leak just delays the same callout.
E18 means water isn't draining fast enough. Filter first, then the impeller sitting under it — a fragment of glass or a fruit sticker will stop it dead. After that the drain hose where it meets the sink trap, which blocks more often in kitchens that also run a waste disposal. If all of that's clear, the drain pump is failing.
E24 is the same family as E18 but points more firmly at a restricted or kinked hose run behind the cabinetry, which tends to show up after a kitchen has been pulled apart and put back.
Bosch washing machines: F21, unbalanced loads and bearings
F21 is a drum rotation fault. On older Bosch motors with carbon brushes, worn brushes are the common culprit and a cheap fix. The newer EcoSilence brushless motors have no brushes, so F21 there points at the hall sensor or the control board instead. Which motor you have changes the price of the job substantially, so it's worth having the model number when you call.
Before booking anything, open the door on an empty machine and turn the drum by hand. It should spin freely and quietly. Grinding, or a rumble that changes as it turns, means bearings — and on Bosch that's a bigger job, because the outer tub on many models is sealed, so the repair is a tub assembly rather than a pair of bearings. That's the single most common point at which we tell someone the machine isn't worth it.
Unbalanced-load errors usually aren't a fault at all. One heavy item — a bath mat, a single towel — will trip them. Redistribute the load before assuming the machine is sick.
Bosch ovens and cooktops
Ovens that heat but won't hold temperature are nearly always the thermostat or the sensor rather than the element. An element that has actually failed usually fails visibly, with a blister or a break you can see.
An oven that trips the safety switch the moment it's turned on is a different matter: that's an element gone to earth, and the power needs to stay off until someone qualified is in front of it.
Pyrolytic models add one more failure point. The door locks for the clean cycle and occasionally doesn't release afterwards. Twenty minutes with the power off at the wall clears a stuck lock often enough to be worth trying first.
Induction cooktops that shut down mid-cook are usually cooling-fan or ventilation problems rather than element failures, and they get worse through summer. Anything involving a cooktop's fixed wiring is licensed electrical work in NSW.
What it costs and how long it takes
The assessment fee is $125 across the Illawarra and $145 further out on the South Coast. The technician diagnoses the fault and gives you the repair price before starting.
Most Bosch repairs finish on the first visit. Bosch's parts distribution into the Illawarra is good, so where a part is needed it's usually next-day rather than a fortnight. Control boards and sealed tub assemblies are the two that most often need ordering.
When we'll tell you not to bother
We'd rather say it up front than after you've paid for an assessment:
- Sealed-tub bearing failure on a machine past about eight years — the repair approaches replacement cost.
- A failed control board on an older machine, for the same reason.
- Anything where the cabinet or drum has corroded through, which we see on machines kept in unventilated laundries near the coast.
Salt air is a real factor here. Machines in beachside laundries with no ventilation corrode years earlier than the same model three suburbs inland, and it's the outer cabinet and the earth points that go first.

What does E15 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?
E15 means the anti-flood float in the base tray has been triggered by water. Tilting the machine back about 45 degrees for a minute usually drains the tray and clears the code, but the code returns if the leak that filled it has not been found. Common sources are the door seal, the heat exchanger and a split fill hose.
What does E18 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?
E18 is a drainage fault: the machine is not seeing water leave within the expected time. Start with the filter and the pump impeller under it, then the drain hose at the sink trap. If those are clear the drain pump itself is the usual cause.
What does F21 mean on a Bosch washing machine?
F21 is a drum rotation fault - the control board expects the drum to spin and it is not. Worn carbon brushes on older motors, the hall sensor on brushless motors, or the drive belt are the usual causes. Turning the empty drum by hand is a useful first check: if it grinds or will not move freely, bearings are the more likely story.
Are Bosch appliances worth repairing?
Usually yes on the machine itself, because Bosch bearings and motors tend to outlast the electronics. The one to think hard about is a failed control board or a sealed-tub bearing failure on a machine over about eight years old, where the repair approaches replacement cost. We give you the repair figure before you commit.
Is Wollongong Service Company an authorised Bosch service centre?
No. Bosch handles its own warranty work through its own service network, and we are not part of it, so we cannot repair a Bosch under manufacturer warranty on Bosch's behalf. While the warranty runs, book through Bosch.
