What we repair
Asko washing machines, dryers and dishwashers, domestic only — we don't take on commercial kitchen equipment. Wollongong through to Nowra and along the South Coast.
Asko is a smaller brand here than Bosch or Westinghouse, and that changes the shape of a repair more than the machines themselves do. The machines are well built; the parts network is thinner. Both facts are worth knowing before you book.
Asko washing machines: draining and spinning
The two calls that dominate are "it won't drain" and "it won't spin", and they're often the same fault wearing two hats.
Won't drain. Asko puts a screw-out drain filter behind the lower kick panel. It's designed to be opened by the owner and it's the first thing to check — coins, hairpins and bra underwires end up there and stop the pump dead. Put a towel down first, because the drum will still hold water.
If the filter's clean and the machine hums without moving water, the pump impeller is jammed or the pump has failed. If there's no hum at all, it's more likely electrical.
Won't spin. A cycle that won't reach spin often isn't a spin fault — the machine simply won't accelerate a load it can't balance, or it's aborting earlier because it can't drain. Rule the drain out first.
If drainage is fine, turn the empty drum by hand. Asko drums are heavier than most, which is why they're stable at high spin speeds and also why bearing wear announces itself early. A grinding or rumbling drum means bearings, and on these machines that's a substantial job.
Asko dishwashers
Most Asko dishwasher work is drainage or spray-arm related. The filter assembly in the base unscrews for cleaning, and a machine that leaves grit on the load usually has a partially blocked filter or blocked spray-arm jets rather than a pump fault — hold the arms up to the light and check the holes are clear.
Door seals and door springs are the other regular. A door that drops rather than lowering smoothly is a spring or cable, and it's worth fixing before the hinge takes the strain.
Asko dryer repairs
We repair Asko dryers, and the two complaints are the same as everywhere else: the load comes out damp, or the machine has gone noisy.
Damp loads on a condenser or heat pump Asko are nearly always airflow rather than a dead heater. The lint filters and the condenser unit both clog, and once air stops moving through the drum the machine runs a full cycle without drying much. Both are designed to be pulled out and cleaned, and doing it regularly is the single thing that keeps an Asko dryer out of our diary. If the filters and condenser are clean and it still runs cold, the element, the thermal cut-out or the sensor is the next stop.
Noise is usually the drum bearings or the belt, and a drum that will not turn at all while the motor hums is a belt every time. A dryer drum that will not turn covers what to check first.
What an Asko service call involves
One technician, one visit, and a diagnosis before any money goes on parts. We come to you, find the fault, and give you the repair price. You decide from there, and it is fine to stop at the assessment.
Where Asko differs from the mass-market brands is what happens next. If the part is a pump, seal, filter or belt we can often finish on the spot. If it is a control board or a model-specific assembly, we order it and come back, because those do not live on the van. We will say which side yours falls on while we are standing there, not a week later.
Bring the model number to the booking if you can. On washers and dryers it is on the door rim or the rear plate, and it is what lets us check parts availability before the visit.
The honest bit about parts
Common wear parts — pumps, seals, filters, belts, hoses — are usually a few days away. Electronic controls and model-specific assemblies come through a smaller distribution network than the mass-market brands, and they can take longer.
What that means practically: a first-visit fix is less likely on Asko than on Bosch, and a return visit is more common. We'd rather set that expectation before you pay for the assessment than surprise you with it afterwards. The counterweight is that these machines are worth keeping — the build quality genuinely is better than most, and a repaired Asko usually has years left in it.
Are you Asko's service centre?
No. We are an independent family-owned repairer working across the Illawarra and South Coast, and we are not Asko's authorised service agent or its Australian service centre.
People search "Asko service" meaning two different things, so both are worth answering. If you want an Asko machine serviced and it is out of warranty, that is us, and you can book it below. If you are looking for Asko's own service channel because the machine is still covered, go to the Australian distributor named in your paperwork rather than to us. We cannot log a warranty claim on your behalf, and a repair by an outside repairer during the warranty period can cost you the cover, so we will say so on the phone instead of taking the assessment fee.
Out of warranty the calculation flips, and this is a brand where an independent is genuinely worth having. Manufacturer service on a smaller European brand tends to mean waiting for a technician who covers a wide area, whereas we are local and we will quote the part rather than the machine. What we cannot do is conjure a faster parts network than the one that exists, which is covered honestly above. The assessment fee is $125 across the Illawarra and $145 further out on the South Coast. The technician diagnoses the fault and gives you the repair price, including the parts wait, before anything is ordered.
When we'll tell you not to bother
- Bearing failure on a machine past about ten years, where the job plus parts approaches replacement.
- A failed control board on a model whose parts have been discontinued.
- Corrosion through the cabinet or chassis, which we see on machines kept in unventilated laundries near the coast. Salt air costs appliances years here, and it takes the earth points and outer cabinet first.

Asko repair questions
Why won't my Asko washing machine drain?
Start with the drain filter behind the lower kick panel - on Asko it is a screw-out trap and it catches coins and hairpins that stop the pump. If the filter is clear, the drain pump or its impeller is the usual cause. A machine that hums but does not move water is pointing at the impeller.
Why won't my Asko washing machine spin?
Most often an unbalanced load the machine refuses to accelerate, a drain fault stopping the cycle before spin, or worn drum bearings. Turn the empty drum by hand: free and quiet is good, grinding or rumbling means bearings. Asko drums are heavier than most, so bearing wear is audible earlier than on lighter machines.
Do you repair Asko dryers?
