Apartment laundries and stacked machines
A lot of Wollongong laundries are a cupboard with a slimline front loader and a dryer bolted above it. Those machines do the same job as a full-size washer with less room to cool, less room to service and a smaller drain filter that fills up faster. The fault we see most in city units is a washer that stops with water in the drum because the filter is packed with lint, coins and hair ties. Clearing it takes ten minutes if you know where it is.
When the filter is clean and the drum still holds water, the drain pump has usually burnt out. If the door will not unlock at the end of a cycle, the door lock or the pressure switch is the likely part. Both are standard repairs on Bosch, LG, Samsung and Asko machines, which are the brands we see most in newer blocks.
Getting the technician in
Parking near the mall and in the older streets off Crown Street can be tight. If your building has a loading bay, a visitor spot or a lift that needs a fob, mention it when you book. The technician needs to bring tools and sometimes a replacement pump up to the unit.
Smells and mould in a closed laundry
A laundry cupboard with no window keeps a front loader damp between washes, and the rubber door seal and detergent drawer grow mould that you can smell in the hallway. Wipe the seal dry after the last load, pull the drawer out and rinse it, and leave the door open a crack. A hot cycle with no clothes once a month clears most of it. If the smell comes back within days, water may be sitting in the sump because the pump is not clearing it, and that is a repair.
