Integrated machines in renovated units
Dishwasher repairs are the job Wollongong searches for most, and a large share of them are integrated machines in renovated kitchens. The door wears a cabinet panel, the kickboard hides the base, and owners tend to live with a fault for weeks because they assume the whole thing has to come out. It almost never does. We slide it forward on its runners, take the kickboard off and work from the front.
The faults follow a pattern. Water left in the base after a cycle means the filter, the sump or the drain pump. Cloudy glasses and gritty plates point to blocked spray arm jets or a filter that has not been rinsed in months. A load that comes out clean but stone cold means the heating element or its thermostat has failed. A door that drops open or will not latch is a hinge spring or the catch.
When the leak is upstairs
In a block of units a dishwasher leak is more urgent than it looks, because water that gets under the cabinetry can come through the ceiling of the unit below. Turn off the dishwasher tap under the sink, switch the machine off at the power point and tell us it is an upstairs unit when you book. Many machines have a float switch in the base that stops the pump when water collects there, and a tripped float switch is one of the clues the technician reads.
Rentals and strata
Rental work is a big part of what we do in the city. We arrange access with the tenant, quote the agent, and complete the repair once the owner approves it. Every finished repair carries our warranty.
Before you book
Unscrew the filter in the base, rinse it under the tap and clear anything sitting in the sump. Check the drain hose behind the kickboard is not kinked against the wall. If water still will not clear, or the machine shows an error code, book the $125 assessment and have the model number handy.
