What the sea air does to a fridge
The streets around old Shellharbour village and the boat harbour sit only a few hundred metres from open water. Salt carried on the wind settles on everything, and on a fridge it goes for the parts that are bare metal: the condenser coil, the compressor housing and the screws and brackets at the back. A coil that is corroded or caked with dust and salt cannot release heat, so the fridge runs almost constantly and still struggles on a warm day.
You can check this yourself. Switch the fridge off, pull it out and look at the coil on the back or underneath. Light dust can be vacuumed off. Heavy corrosion, flaking fins or a fridge that is hot to touch on the sides means the cooling system is working too hard, and that is worth an assessment.
Newer fridges in Shell Cove
The homes around the Shell Cove marina are newer, and so are their fridges: large French-door and side-by-side models, many with water dispensers and ice makers. These have their own faults. Water lines freeze, inlet valves stick, ice makers jam and electronic controls report sensor errors. We repair them in place, and for the brands we are authorised for, under the manufacturer's warranty too.
Fridge warm, freezer cold
This is the most common fridge fault on any frost-free model. The cold is made behind the freezer panel and blown into the fridge section by a fan. When the fan fails, or the coil behind the panel ices up because the defrost system has stopped, the freezer stays cold and the fridge warms up. It is a part repair, and rarely anything to do with gas.
