Ovens in Shellharbour kitchens
The houses back from the water in Shellharbour come from every decade, and so do their ovens. We repair everything from older freestanding cookers to the wall ovens in the newer homes at Shell Cove. The parts that fail are mostly the same: elements, the thermostat or temperature sensor, the fan and its motor, the door hinges and seal, and the controls.
Salt and the oven
Ovens live inside, so salt air does less to them than to a fridge coil or an outdoor washer. Where we do see it is in kitchens that face the water with windows open most of the year. The rangehood above the cooktop and the oven door hinges are the first to show rust. Hinges that are stiff or crunchy are worth replacing before the door drops.
No heat, or the wrong heat
An oven that will not heat at all usually has a failed element or a blown thermal fuse. One that heats slowly or burns food on one side has a thermostat, sensor or fan problem. If the oven trips the safety switch as it heats, an element has shorted to earth. Leave it switched off at the wall until it is repaired.
Before you book
Check the clock and timer. Many ovens will not heat while the timer is in auto mode, and a power cut can reset the clock into that state. If the clock is flashing, set it and try the oven again.
The cost
The assessment is $125 for Shellharbour, Shell Cove and Warilla. The repair is priced before any work starts and carries our warranty.
