The houses closer to the beach get the coastal treatment. Salt in the air corrodes exposed steel and copper, so rangehood grilles and the condenser coils on garage fridges pit and clog faster here than they do inland. It is not mysterious. Catch it early, replace the part, and the appliance runs on.

Water on the kitchen floor: is it the appliance or the plumbing?
If water is pooling in a Fairy Meadow kitchen, the first thing worth working out is whether it is coming from an appliance or from the pipework, because that decides who you should be ringing.

A quick check before you book
If a washing machine has stopped draining, the first thing to clear is the drain pump filter behind the flap at the bottom front, with a towel down first because water will come out. It is a five-minute job and it fixes a fair share of "dead" machines. If it drains after that but still will not spin, or nothing moves at all, the fault is usually the pump or door lock, and that is our end of it.
